2.14 Firmware Specifications
The SGM3000 Series meters have two main processors: one for metrology functionality and
one for application functionality. They are known as the metrology processor and the
application processor.
The metrology processor resides on the main metering circuit board and provides functionality
such as calculation of energy values, real time clock, and LCD driver.
The application processor resides on the main metering circuit board and provides functionality
such as load profile and time of use, relay control, communication protocols support, and Smart
energy profile. The application processor contains a unique ID for each meter. It boots from an
external serial flash device using its internal secure boot mechanism. The serial flash contains
storage for two firmware images files, all of which are encrypted using AES. This encryption is
based on the processor unique ID; therefore, each meter will have a unique encrypted image
file.
The SGM3000 Series meters provide customers with the majority of the specified functionality
regardless whether an AMI interface module is installed or not as the core of this functionality
will reside on the metrology and application processors.
The SGM3000 Series meters provide sufficient memory to support third party application
development on the meter without the need for third party firmware to reside on the AMI
module hardware.
