Dedicated UART port so that the port will not be shared for any other meter functions

•

Support baud rates of up to 9600

•

Electrically isolated from the mains connection.

The serial port modules are available with options for the type of serial connector. The serial
connector selection is a factory build option.

The RS232module are available with an RJ

–

45 connector (RS232D or EIA/TIA 561) and a 9 pin

DE9 type connector.

The RS485 module is available with a clamp and screw type arrangement suitable for use when
connecting adjacent meters for RS

–

485 multi-drop applications.

WAN Antenna

The SGM3000 Series meters support use of an external RF antenna for wide area network
(WAN) back-haul communications to the AMI system. The WAN antennal can be attached
through the terminal cover or routed through the meters panel.

The external antenna will be used with the RF module installed in the AMI cartridge. The
external antenna can be installed post factory build.

The AMI module including antenna connectors and cables is electrically isolated from the mains
supply.

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Interface

The SGM3000 Series meters have a universal AMI communication interface. The meters have a
dedicated UART communication port for AMI communication and support the AMI
communication interface via specific AMI signals. The meters support either the ANSI
C12.18/19 or the DLMS/COSEM communication protocol/data module. The choice of protocol
is factory configurable.

While running ANSI C12.18/19, the meters will always act like a slave device in communication.
The meters can detect the presence of AMI module but not the type of AMI module installed.

The SGM3000 Series meters support a modular communications architecture that offers
customers a choice of advanced meter infrastructure (AMI) communication modules. The
meters have the capability to integrate with many different technologies.

The meters provide the means to configure selected errors, cautions, diagnostics, and events
for reporting through the AMI interface.

ZigBee Interface

The SGM3000 Series meters support the installation of a plug-in 2.4 GHz ZigBee module under
the meter cover. The plug-in module will be installed in the factory. The SGM3000 Series
meters will be certified as ZigBee compliant products if the ZigBee module is installed.
