Image Quality Defect Initial Actions
The Print Heads are very robust and built to the highest possible standards. While care
should be taken when performing maintenance tasks, the Print Heads are able to endure
significant abuse before image quality (IQ) is affected.
Although it may seem like common sense to trace any IQ defects to the state of the
Print Heads, many other factors can impact the IQ.
These factors include but are not limited to the following:
• If
is enabled.
• Cleanliness of the Image Sensor Glass (if the Image Sensor is activated during printing
and defects still occur).
• Cleanliness of backer rollers throughout the paper path.
Follow this initial action procedure prior to attempting to troubleshoot any specific IQ
defects. If the IQ defect still exists after using the available troubleshooting procedures,
you will be directed to contact Xerox for more assistance.
1. At the post-processing device, remove two frames of the last job printed on the web.
Write a description and timestamp on the print sample. Retain this print sample for
future use.
2. Problem solve any fault codes. See
Print Head Fault Code Problem Solving
3. Continue to the
Image Quality Defect Diagnosis Section
.
Image Quality Defect Diagnosis Section
This section contains a list of image quality (IQ) defects that could occur while printing.
Note
Some IQ defects are similar in nature. Please look through all of the IQ defect definitions
before making a determination. This ensures that the IQ defect is properly diagnosed
and, more importantly, that the appropriate troubleshooting information is followed.
Select this defect to go to a selection of different types of streaks, including one-pixel
deletions, narrow and wide streaks.
Color non-uniformity (from a single printer)
Color density is inconsistent and the area of inconsistency is approximately the width
of a Print Head.
Poor text/line quality or spots
Poor text/line quality or spots is defined as weak, grainy, or stray pixels on text characters
and cross-process lines. If running full area coverage, spots could also occur.
