Adjusting Volume Settings
The process of adjusting Volume Controls is critical for optimum performance of the
HPSA system and critical to avoid damaging the HPSA.
This section guides the installer thru the process of applying a 1KHz tone from an External
Source to the input of the HPSA and then adjusting the Line-In setting such that the
maximum rated output at the Amplifier Board’s Terminal Blocks is not exceeded. Once
the Line-In is properly adjusted, the Master Volume and Master Limit will be set.
Table 7.3 provides nominal and allowable range Line-In value settings along with Master
Volume settings for each specific Audio Input configuration (1/25/70.7/100 V
RMS
).
While adjusting the settings outlined in the steps below, verify the Line-In setting remains
within the allowable range and verify the Master Volume does NOT get set above the
value listed in Table 7.3.
In addition to Line-In and Master Volume values, Table 7.3 includes values in an
Amplifier Rated Output Voltage column, used when initially adjusting the Amplifier
Output under no-load conditions (speakers disconnected) and values in an Amplifier
Rated Output Voltage column used to verify output voltages under full load conditions
(speakers connected). These values are required to properly adjust the Volume settings.
Upon completion of the initial volume settings, each active output channel on the HPSA’s
Amplifier Board will be measured to verify the output level of each channel is within the
allowable range.
7.2.3.1
Measuring and Setting Line-In
While conducting the tests in this section, it is recommended to use the 1 KHz signal from
the External Source to drive the HPSA and speakers.
1. Verify the channel connections from the Amplifier Board to the drivers have been
disconnected and the NAC In or the Contact Closure connections are
disconnected as indicated in Section 7.1, Step 4 and Step 5; this will prevent the
speakers from activating while adjusting the audio input level.
The HPSA is set at the factory for a specific number of Drivers/Horns.
Adjusting the number of Drivers/Horns is not customer configurable. If the
number of Drivers/Horns needs to be modified, contact Cooper Notification
Customer Satisfaction for assistance.
IMPROPERLY CONFIGURING THE SYSTEM COULD DAMAGE THE
HPSA AND VOID THE EQUIPMENT WARRANTY.
If possible, use the 1 KHz tone in the External Source for setting the HPSA
Volume Controls; alternatively use a 1 KHz tone from a source co-located at
the External Source’s location.
