a
"Lubricated" means coated with a lubricant such as engine oil, or fasteners with phosphate and oil coatings.
b
"Dry" means plain or zinc-plated without any lubrication.
CAUTION: Only use metric tools with metric
hardware; other tools might not fit properly, which
may cause the tool to slip, resulting in injury.
DO NOT use these values if a different torque value or
tightening procedure is given for a specific application.
The torque values listed are for general use only.
Ensure you check the tightness of fasteners periodically.
As shear-bolts are designed to fail under pre-determined
loads, you should always replace shear-bolts with an
identical grade.
Only replace fasteners with those of the same grade or
higher; where a higher-grade fastener is used, ensure
only tighten them to the strength of the original.
Ensure fastener threads are clean and that you start
thread-engagement properly; taking these steps will
minimise the risk of fasteners failing when they are being
tightened.
Tighten plastic insert- or crimped steel-type lock-nuts to
approximately 50 per cent of the dry torque shown in the
chart, and tighten toothed- or serrated-type lock-nuts to
the full torque vale. The torque value should be applied to
the nut, not to the bolt-head.
