General cut process
1. For smaller trees that only require a single cut, you
may need to over-ride the felling head’s unlatching
with the tilt-up button pushed during cutting. This will
prevent the tree from being forced faster than the
saw chain can cut. Once the tree is cut, activate the
tilt-down button to fell the tree.
2. To fell trees with a heavy forward lean, you can either
uproot them, or use multiple front cuts to create a
larger area to compress while back cutting.
3. To reduce the risk of the felling head being damaged,
you should release larger trees once they are falling.
4. Be careful when working at the tops of hills and/or on
uneven ground; this terrain can cause trees to swing
upwards, lifting the base and/or damaging the felling
head.
5. Be mindful that releasing trees as they are falling into
another standing tree can sometimes allow the tree
to roll off.
6. If a fallen tree becomes hung in another tree, be
careful when pulling it down. Ensure the holding tree is
not being pulled in the same direction; if this happens,
push the tree to uproot the tree away from the carrier.
Felling multi-leaders
CAUTION: You should exercise caution to
ensure other leaders do not unexpectedly
break away; before felling a multi-leader tree,
inspect it for signs of tree rot (4).
With ‘crutched’ trees, you can either cut them at a point
where both parts separate, or if one side has a smaller

diameter, you can lift the smaller-diameter side until the
crutch splits.
You may need to separately fell trees that are ‘crutched’ at
the base, if the split line is close to the ground. You should
carefully identify whether or not the base of the tree is
sound; if it is, you may be able to fell the tree completely.
Evidence of tree rot (4) indicates that each leader will need
to be individually removed; do this in the conventional
manner, except at a greater height.
