Remove paint before welding/heating
When paint is heated via welding, soldering, or other
torch-use, it can result in hazardous fumes; you should
avoid such fumes and dust, as exposure may result in
serious injury.
To minimise this risk, remove paint before heating:
•
Remove paint a minimum of 100 millimetres
(four-inches) from around the area that will be affected
by heating. If you cannot remove this paint, ensure you
wear an approved respirator.
•
When sanding or grinding paint, use an approved
respirator to avoid breathing the dust.
•
If you use solvent or paint stripper, remove the stripper
with soap and water before welding. Remove solvent or
paint stripper containers and other flammable material
from the area.
•
Ensure you allow any fumes to disperse at least 15
minutes before welding/heating.

DO NOT use a chlorinated solvent in areas where you
will be welding.
Ensure you only carry out this type of work in well-vetilated
areas, to carry toxic fumes and dust away.
Ensure you dispose of paint and solvent properly.
Making welding repairs
IMPORTANT: Before welding, ensure you disable
the electrical power; separate all harness
connectors between the engine and the
machine’s microprocessors. When the ignition
is in the “OFF” position, the main battery
power is automatically off.
If you weld or heat near pressurised fluid lines, it may
produce flammable spray, which may, in turn, result in
severe burns. For this reason,
DO NOT
let any heat go
beyond the work area to pressurised lines that may be
nearby.
When welding, keep the ground clamp as close to the
welded area as possible; this will reduce the risk of the
welding current travelling through the electrical system.
In addition, ensure you:

•
Remove all paint properly, before welding.
•
Do not inhale any paint dust and/or fumes.
•
Use a qualified welding technician when making any
structural repairs.
•
Carry out the procedure in a well-ventilated area.
•
Use the correct protective equipment and apparel (for
example, eye protection).
