If there is a strong wind, particularly a crosswind or tailwind, slow right
down.
Keep checking your rear view mirror, and watch out for large approaching
vehicles, as they create considerable bow waves.
Slow down as you approach the brow of a hill and before starting to go
downhill, so that the car continues to pull the Caravan, rather than the
Caravan pushing the car.
Excessive speed downhill is a common cause of difficulties which can
increase the risk of an accident.
Setting off:
a)
Let the clutch in smoothly on the towing vehicle. Allow more
engine speed to produce the power to move the additional weight
of the caravan.
b)
Avoid wear and tear on the clutch and transmission by taking extra
care not to 'ride' the clutch.
c)
Change gears smoothly. Try not to jerk the clutch.
Reversing
;
Reversing becomes easier with practice. Vanmaster Caravans are equipped
with an automatic mechanism enabling the Caravan to be reversed
immediately on stopping.
a)
When reversing round a corner, start with the outfit in a straight
line.
