Do not suddenly swing out.
Carry out all manoeuvres as smoothly as possible. Use nearside wing mirror
to check the Caravan has cleared when overtaking.
Caravans being towed are slower than solo motorcars. They take up more
room. However they follow the towing vehicle 'faithfully' with hardly and
cut-in on corners so drive close to your side of the road.
Do NOT hog the centre of the road.
Be considerate to other road users and remember, with the Caravan behind,
everything takes a little longer.
Overtaking and stopping distances increase when you are towing. Always
indicate your intention in plenty of time and allow extra space between you
and other vehicles.
If a queue of traffic builds up behind your Caravan, pull in when safe to do
so, to allow faster traffic pass.
Snaking:
This is a term used to denote an unstable car and caravan combination
where the caravan 'weaves' from side to side often causing a similar swaying
movement in the car itself.
Causes:
a)
Unsuitable or unbalanced outfit.
b)
Incorrect loading or weight distribution.
c)
Excessive speed especially downhill.
