S T A R T I N G S Y S T E M - Starter
Removal
1 . Disconnect the battery ground c a ­
ble from the battery term inal.
2 . Disconnect the w i r e s to the starter
m o to r.
3. R em o v e the starter retaining nuts,
and re m o v e the starter.
Disassembly
1 . Disconnect the field coil w ir e from
the magnetic switch terminal.
2. R e m o v e the two magnetic switch
retaining s c r e w s , and re m o v e the
magnetic switch from the d rive
end f r a m e .

3. R e m o v e the end fra m e c o v e r , and
re m o v e the lock w a s h e r , brake
spring and the rubber ring.
4 . R e m o v e the two through bolts , and
re m o v e the commutator end fra m e .
5. T a k e out the brushes from the
brush h older, and re m o v e the
brush holder from the armature
shaft.
6. R e m o v e the y o k e from the d rive
housing.
7. R e m o v e the d riv e le v e r set bolt
from the d r iv e housing, and r e ­
move the rubber ( 1 ) , plate ( 2 ) ,

8. R em ov e the snap ring and pinion

end,then rem ove the starter clutch.
