1. Warm up the engine till the coolant
temperature re a c h e s 75 ~ 85 C
(167 ~ 185 ° F ) ,
2. Tighten the cylinder head and the
r o c k e r shaft support bolts to spe­
cified torque.
Specified torque:
Cylinder head bolts:
11-12 m -kg (80 ft-lb)
R o c k e r shaft support bolts:
2 . 0 - 2 . 5 m -kg (15 ft-lb)
3. S e t the engine at idling speed to
about 550 rpm.
a . Check the r o c k e r arm and
valve stem clea ran ce with a fe e le r
gauge.
b. T o adjust, loosen the lo c k , nut
and turn the adjusting s c r e w until
the specified clea ran ce is obtained.
Specified clearance:
Intake: 0.203 mm ( 0 . 0 0 8 " )
Exhaust: 0.356 mm (0 .0 1 4 " )
c . Tighten the lock nut securely
after adjustment, and re ch eck the
c le a r a n c e .

1. Start the engine, and check the
carb uretor fuel level.
If the level is not satisfactory , ad­
just the float l e v e l .
2. T h e adjustment of the engine idling
should be performed with the air
cleaner installed.
a. R em ove the intake manifold
suction hole plug, then install the
adapter to connect the vacuum
gauge. Connect the vacuum gauge
hose to the adapter •
b . Connect the tachometer onto the
ignition coil.
c . Tu rn the throttle adjusting
s c r e w until the engine operates
smoothly without stalling at lowest
possible revolution.
d. Tu rn the idle adjusting s c r e w
and the throttle adjusting s c r e w
alternately to obtain a steady and
maximum vacuum reading with
smooth engine operation at lowest
possible revolution. T h e engine
idling speed should be approxi­
mately 550 rpm, and the vacuum
reading should be 460 - 530 mmHg
(18 ~ 21 in H g ) .
N O T E : Adjust the engine idling at
the "D " range fo r the c a r equipped
with the T oyo glid e Automatic trans­
mission .
3. T o check the acceleration pump,
the air cleaner must be removed
from the ca rb u reto r, and the en­
gine must be stopped. Next, open
the throttle va lve completely from
the closed position, and o b s e rv e
the condition of the fuel spray from
the pump jet.

check the automatic choke set po­
sition .
