If defective, replace the ring g e a r .
4. T o re m o v e the ring g e a r , Heat the
ring g e a r by rotating the flywheel
on a suitable stand to about 150
to 200 C (300 ~ 390 F ) , and tap
lightly, and rem o ve the ring ge ar
from the fly w h e e l.
5. T o install the ring g e a r , heat the
ring g e a r to about 200 °C (300 ° F )
and install the ring g e a r while still
hot.
Camshaft
1. Check the camshaft fo r run-out
with a dial gauge, and if the run­
out exceed s 0.05 mm (0 .0 0 2 11) ,
the camshaft must be straightened
o r re p la c e.
T h e run-out is one-half difference
of maximum reading.

2 . Inspect the camshaft cam lobes fo r
pits, s c o r e s and abnormal w e a r .
If the cam lobe height is less than
38.06 mm (1 .4 9 8 11) fo r the intake
and 37.94 mm ( 1 . 4 9 3 " ) fo r the
exhaust, replace the camshaft.
If the cam lobes a r e pitted o r
sc o re d slightly and the pitting o r
sco rin g is not detrimental to the
operation of the camshaft, the lobes
may be d r e s s e d with an oil stone.
Cam lobe height:
Intake: 38.39 ~ 38.49 mm
(1.511 ~ 1 .5 1 6 " )
Exhaust: 38.29 ~ 38.39 mm
(1.506 - 1 .5 1 1 ")
3. Check the distributor drive g e a r
fo r s c o re and w e a r .
If n e c e s s a r y , replace the camshaft.
4. Check the camshaft end p la y , and
if the play exceed s 0.3 mm o r
0 .0 1 2 " , replace the thrust plate.
End play:
0.06 ~ 0.13 mm
(0.0023 - 0 .0 0 5 1 ")
Limit: 0 .3 mm (0 .0 1 2 " )
