7. Check the resistance between the
alternator " F " and " E " terminals
with a circuit tester.
T h e specified resistance is ap
proximately 6 ~ 9 ohms. If this
resistance is le s s than 6 ohms,
the ro to r coil o r w ir e s a re shorted.
T h e
resistance
is
excessively
higher than that specified above,
the ro to r coil o r brushes, and the
slip rings have a high resistance
o r a r e opened.

8 . P e r f o r m the load test in the fo llow
ing manner.
Make the same connection as shown
in figure 8-4 , and start the en
gine, and run it at approximately
1,100 rpm with all lights and a c
c e s s o r i e s turned on.
T h e amm eter should indicate ap
proximately 40 a m pe res on the

R T 4 3 L ,
R T 5 2 L and R K
171B s e r i e s , and approximately
25 a m p e re s on the R K s e r ie s
except on R K 1 7 1 B s e r ie s with
the voltage of 13.8 ~ 14.8 volts.
If the cu rren t flow is extremely
l o w e r than the specified a m p e ra ge,
the
re ctifie r
o r
stator coil is
shorted o r opened.
If the battery is in full charged
state and the am pe rage reading is
le s s than the specified a m p e r a g e .
It is recom mended to d ischarge the
battery to p erfo rm the load test.
Disconnect the high tension lead
from the ignition coil, and turn the
starter f o r about 5 ~ 10 seconds
to d is c h a rg e the battery.
