Removal
B e fo r e re m o va l, c o v e r the fenders
with the fen d er c o v e r s to protect the
painted surfaces , and also do not spill
any brake fluid o r a n ti-freeze solution
on the painted su rface.
On the R S , R T 4 3 L , 5 2 L , R K 4 4 and
101 s e r i e s , re m o v e as follows
1. Drain the cool&nt.
2 . R em ove o r disconnect the following
p a r t s .
a. Battery ground cable.
b. H ood.
c . A i r clean er.
d. Radiator grille (on R T ) .
e . Radiator upper baffle plate
(on R T ) .
f . Inlet and outlet radiator hoses .
g . Oil cooler flexible hoses (with
T o yo glid e Automatic) .
h. A c c e l e r a t o r connecting r o d .
i. Choke connecting rod (on R K )
j . Fuel
hose.
k. Distributor prim a ry lead w i r e
and high tension coil w i r e .
1. Battery to starter cable and
magnetic switch lead w i r e .
3. R em ov e the radiator and the fan
shroud, and then re m o v e o r dis
connect the following p a r t s .
a. B r a k e booster vacuum hose
(if installed)
b . H ea te r hoses and w a te r va lve
(if installed)
c. Clutch
flexible hose (except
with T o yo glid e Automatic)
d. A ltern a to r lead w i r e s .
e . Exhaust pipe.
f . Engine front mounting bolts and
nuts.
g . T e m p e r a tu re and oil p r e s s u r e
gauge unit lead w i r e s .
4. Jack up the c a r , and support with
stands.
D rain the engine oil, and re m o v e
the p ro p e lle r shaft.
T o preven t the oil leak fro m the
transmission r e a r , insert any a-
vailable universal joint sle e v e yoke.
5 . R em ove o r disconnect the following
p a rts .
a. Transmission c o v e r (on R K ) .
b. Transm ission control links or
r o d s .
c. S peedom eter cable.
d. P a rk in g brake cable.
e . Fron t
exhaust pipe
support
b r a c k e t.
f . Engine under c o v e rs (if in
stalled ) .
g . Clutch re lea se cylinder with
pipe
(except with Toyoglide
Automatic) .
6. P la c e the jack under the trans
mission ,
and
re m o v e the r e a r
mounting.
7. Install a lifting hooks onto the en
gine h a n g e rs , and carefully lift
the engine with the transmission
tow ards the front and upward with
a suitable hoist to re m o ve the en
gine.
T a k e c a re not to damage other
components.
On R K 1 7 1 ,
171B and 176 s e r i e s ,
re m o v e as follows
1. R a is e the veh icle, and support the
front and r e a r axles with stands.
2. Drain the coolant and the engine
o il.
3. Lift the engine c o v e r with the a-
sistant d r iv e r 's seat, and support
it with the hook belt (on D yna)
R em ov e the engine s e r v ic e hole
c o v e r (on Light B u s ) .
4. R e m o v e o r disconnect the following
p a r t s .
a. Battery ground cable.
b. Battery to starter w i r e and
magnetic switch lead w i r e .
c . High tension coil w i r e and d is
tributor prim ary lead w i r e .
