9.13 Electrical Maintenance
NOTICE
All electrical equipment must be maintained in a safe condition. All electrical systems must
be subject to appropriate inspection, examination, testing, and preventative maintenance by
competent people. Good visual inspection picks up a large percentage of common faults, but
some faults cannot be found solely with such an inspection.
(1) Before Welding
NOTICE
Before any welding work can be carried out at this machine a number of electrical components
must be disconnected to prevent potential damage.
PROCEDURE
1. Observe all safety warnings.
2. Switch off the machine and implement the lockout and tag out procedure.
3. Disconnect the ground negative [-] battery cable on the batteries.
4. Carry out welding work within a safe environment. When completed reconnect the negative
[-] battery cable on the batteries and remove the lockout and tag out.
(2) Battery Removal and Installation

DANGER
Do wear protective eye wear, clothing and gloves.
Do not expose the battery to flame, sparks, or incendiary devices, including cigarettes.
Do not lay tools across the top of the battery. A conductive metal might touch both terminals
simultaneously causing a short, sparks, or a potential explosion.

WARNING
Explosion Hazard
Rapid release of pressurized liquids or gas can result in death or serious injury.
Relieve all pressure before performing service on accumulator.
Do not weld on or puncture accumulator.
Keep flames or other heat source away from accumulator.
Never give your key to anyone else and where more than one person is working on the equipment
they must fit their lock also.
Dumping the battery will be a hazard to the environment. Dispose of the battery by special
disposal or at a recycling centre.
