Cue/PFL
Here, the standard PFL mode can be changed to Cue mode, sometimes also
referred to as ‘Positional Solo’. As a difference to the PFL mode, Cue is taking
into account the channel panner parameter. Two Cue modes are available
:
Cue Pre Voice Mix
,
Cue After Voice Mix.
For channels which are not
assigned to a Voice mix process, both Cue modes are identical.
Maximum Level
Here the consoles
Maximum Level
or also “reference” level is configured.
Maximum Level
can also be regarded as the consoles “input sensitivity”.
Maximum Level
is the analog signal level, received through an analog line
input, necessary to produce a console-internal digital signal of 0 dB
FS
. As a
default, this
Maximum Level
is set to +15 dBu. The range is as follows :
+6 dBu to +24 dBu in steps of 1 dB. (The most commonly used values are
highlighted in bold figures : +6, +9, +12, +15, +18, +20,+22 and +24 dBu).
For microphone inputs, this setting influences the displayed gain values.
The displayed microphone input gain value is then matching the specified
Maximum Level,
and therefore also matching the analog line level input and
output singals.
Example :
With the microphone input gain set to 0 dB, an input signal with the level of
Maximum Level
produces a console internal signal of 0 dB
FS.

Headroom
The console-internal headroom is set here; the default setting is 9 dB. This
means that the peak level meters (i.e. PPM DIN, Nordic Analog and Nordic
Digital) indicate 0 at an internal audio level of –9 dB
FS
(or +9 dB at an internal
audio level of 0 dB
FS
).
With the default
Maximum Level
and line level input sensitivity of +15 dBu,
an input level of +6 dBu results in an internal audio level of –9 dB
FS
and hence
in a level meter indication of 0, if overall gain is set to 0 dB.
If a different console headroom setting is desired, it can be set in a range of
0 to 20 dB in steps of 1 dB.
The line input sensitivity of analog line I/O cards may be fine-adjusted with
trimmer potentiometers on the card (refer to the D21m product information).
