Figure 6-54: Measuring a missing row in a printed sample
In
the
example
above,
the
number
of
missing
nozzles
is
one
(1).
More
than
12,
or
more
than
four
consecutive
clogged
nozzles
are
an
indication
that
you
may
need
to
replace
the
head.
Note:
During this procedure, the roller does not smooth the surface of the
printed samples. Do not mistake the visible lines in the sample for missing
material.
To
complete
the
calibration
procedure,
you
need
to
weigh
the
printed
patches.
An
external
head
calibration
utility
uses
these
weights
to
adjust
the
voltage
applied
to
each
head.
Replacing
Print Heads
The
condition
of
the
heads
directly
affects
the
quality
of
printed
models.
You
may
need
to
replace
a
head
if
one
or
more
of
the
following
symptoms
occurs:
•
There
are
noticeable
grooves
in
the
surface
of
printed
models.
•
Visual
inspection
of
the
head
reveals
that
its
surface
is
damaged—
peeling
or
bubbles
in
the
nozzle
area.
•
The
pattern
test
or
the
weight
test
reveals
that
more
than
four
consecutive
nozzles—or
a
total
of
more
than
12
nozzles—are
not
functioning.
•
The
‐
head
calibration
utility
indicates
that
a
head
cannot
be
calibrated
for
acceptable
printing—see
•
The
printer
interface
displays
a
warning
or
malfunction
message
relating
to
a
head—
