with programming items in subcategories on the
phone's LCD. Each option can be displayed when
programming. The six categories are: Extension;
Trunkline; Call Handling; Resource; Restriction; and
Control.
5. Selecting Database Items
The LCD soft button function keys that are found
directly under the LCD display. The three main func-
tions of these softkeys are to allow information to be
changed, saved or cleared. Other uses for these keys
include moving through programming options both
backwards and forwards, displaying the current
information for an option and returning to the imme-
diate higher level category.
The uses for each of these keys is as follows:
BKSP (Backspace)
- When the new programming
data entry is not desired, the BKSP button erases the
last entered digit allowing the new data to be
entered.
SAVE
- When the new programming data is
entered, the system will check the entered data auto-
matically. If the data entry is invalid, the
programming prompt will be refreshed. However, if
the data is valid, the softkey under the SAVE option
must be pressed to confirm. After SAVE is selected,
the next item or category will be displayed.
CHG (Change)
- When current information needs
to be modified, pressing the CHG softkey allows
new options to be chosen or entered. If the informa-
tion to be changed is generated by the system itself,
the content of the current programming item will be
displayed. Continue to press the CHG to see each of
the options. If it is a field that contains only Yes or
No, pressing CHG will toggle between the two. If
there are several options, Protegé® 616 will cycle
through all of them. If the information is not gener-
ated by the system, pressing CHG will erase the cur-
rent information. For fields that accept "Null" as a
valid entry, press SAVE when the field is blank.
NEXT
- Press the NEXT softkey to go to the next
programming item within the same category or go to
the next category if the current feature item is the last
one in a category.
BACK
- Press the BACK softkey to go back to the
previous programming item within the same cate-
gory or to the previous category if the current item is
the first one in a category.
SHOW (Display)
- Press the SHOW softkey to
enter into programming for a detailed feature item in
a specific category or to display current programmed
content of such feature item.
EXIT
- To EXIT to the immediate higher level cate-
gory than the current programming item, press the
fixed "HOLD" key.
CLEAR
- Press the fixed "CLEAR" key to return
the keyset to its idle state.
6. Entering Data
and Settings
Protegé 616 software includes two types of data
fields. The first type is a "toggle" field. When a toggle
field is shown, pressing the "CHG" key will toggle
the field between two or more values - the user does-
n't actually enter data from the keyboard.
The second type of field is a data entry field.
Pressing "CHG" using the softkey at the
programming item, clears the field of its current
value. The user types the new value using the dial
pad of the telephone.
7. Database Records
The Protegé 616 database is the entire collection of
option settings and definitions, such as extension
numbers, that control how the system operates. The
information resides in the KSU and is accessed
through the display telephone. Changes that are
made will become active immediately once the user
exits the database.
8. Rebooting the System
When it is necessary to restart the Protegé 616
system, there are two different methods. One is a
System Warm Start that resets the system. The other
