Mechanical Installation
Doppler Transducer and Preamplifier D
Details of the installation of the Doppler transducer and preamplifier D,
type 5005, are contained in the installation, maintenance and service
instructions for the Doppler transducers and preamplifier D, document
no. 5005-0125-01, and in the dimension/installation drawing for the
respective transducer.
In general, field service will attend a vessel after the transducer hard-
ware has been installed mechanically by the shipyard. I.e., in case of the
gate valve transducer, the gate valve will be installed and in case of the
tank mount transducer, the cofferdam tank and transducer will be
installed completely. In most cases, the vessel will be afloat at this point
in time.
The preamplifier D, type 5005, may be installed at the same time as the
sensor or later, together with the other electronic components of the
NAVIKNOT 600 SD system.
NAVIKNOT Electronics Unit
The electronics unit is to be installed at a protected location. In most
cases, it will be mounted in the vicinity of the master CDU.
The electronics unit is to be attached to a level surface with four M6
screws (or nuts and bolts). For the dimensions of the housing, refer to
drawing 5004-0112-01 in the appendix.
The electronics unit may be deck-mounted only and must face in either
the forward, aft, port or starboard direction, relative to the vessel’s fore-
and-aft line, to an accuracy within ±5°.

CAUTION
Damage to the transducer function caused by cabling changes
Cutting or shortening of the transducer cable or connecting new cables
with existing old cabling will lead to damage or malfunction. The given
length of any specific transducer cable is a necessary element of its per-
formance. Cutting or shortening as connecting to old cabling will harm
the performance characteristics of the transducer cable and lead to mal-
function of the transducer.
Always use the transducer cables in the original length. Never cut or
shorten the transducer cables. Rewire excess cable length in a loop if
necessary. Never connect a new transducer cable to old cabling.
