special
probe
is
used,
with
two
electrical
conta
cts
in
it,
to

etermine
the
resistance
to
the
flow
of
electricity
in
the
liqu
id.
The

In
the
MkII
systems,
the
salinity
probe
is
located
in
a
port
on
the
bot
tom
of
the
fe
ed
pump
module
plu
mb
in

ifold.
Thi
s
way
we
can
look
at
the
salinity
level
of
the
product
water
before deciding to either reject the wa
ter or a
ccep
t it and divert it into the holdin
g tank.
The
sal
inity
level
in
parts
-
per
-
m
il
l
ion
can
be
seen
either through
the
salin
ity
meter
in
the
soft-
ware, or on the display.
The
next
step
is
to
de
cide
what
medium
to
use
as
calibration
solution.
If
a
hand
-
held
salin
ity
meter
is
available,
you
can
simply
take
a
r
eading
of
your
produc
t
wat
er
while
the
unit
is
run-
nin
g,
then
c
alibrate
our
M
PC
board
to
match
tha
t
re
ading.
As
lon

as
you
trust
th
e
a
ccura
cy
of
your hand
-
held meter, this is a
ll that is necessary.
The
microprocessor
calculates
sal
inity
from
the
si
gnal
s
sent
back
to
it
from
th
e
probe.
The
salin
ity
circuit
can
be
adjusted
from
the
Spectra
software
by
adjustin
g
the
“Salin
ity
Calibra-
tion”
parameter,
or
from
the
display
in
the
Sa
lin
ity
Cal
w
indow.
Increase

calibration

rameter to increase
the salinity readin
g.
Conductivity
calibration
so
lutions
are
available

if
another
method
of
calibration
is
necessary.
These
solution

Calibration
cons
ists
of
insertin
g
our
probe
into
the
solution
and
se
tting
the calibration parameter to
the required v
alue.
To
remove
the
sal
in
ity
probe,
unplu
g
the
telephone
style
cable
from
the
probe.
Use
a
wrench
to
unscrew
the
probe
from
the
manifold.
Re
-
connect
the
salinity
probe
cable,
and
you
are
ready
to
calibrate.
Place
th
e
flat
surface
of
th
e
probe
cont
ainin
g
the
two
metal
conductivity
contac
ts
into
the
calibration
solut
ion
bein
g
careful
not
to
get
the
cable
or
jacks
wet.
Upon
re
-
instal
lation,
it
is
recom
mended
to
use
Teflon
tape
on
the
sal
inity
probe
threads
before
re
-
instal
lin
g
to prevent leaks. We also recom
mend puttin
g so
me s
i
licone
grease in
side the jack, to
prevent moisture from causin
g corros
ion in
side the jack.
