Answer machine administration 

Every BizIP 410 telephone is automatically assigned an answer machine 
with a user mailbox during startup. 

The mailbox number is the same as the telephone number. It is also pos-
sible to set up group mailboxes under 

Web

Connectivity Settings

. 

There are some differences between user and group mailboxes. These dif-
ferences are described below where applicable.

An answer machine can record messages for a mailbox provided there is 
sufficient memory and a G.729 RTP connection available. You can perform 
administration or make a call using the BizIP 410 telephone at the same 
time.

The station for the relevant mailbox does not have to be active for the pur-
poses of message recording. If, for example, the telephone is deactivated, 
the answer machine for another telephone makes the recording. It is there-
fore possible to record multiple messages simultaneously.

However, message retrieval or mailbox administration can only be per-
formed when the station is activated. The answer machine rejects a simul-
taneous second access.

New messages or the mailbox status are signaled with the LED of the rel-
evant function key:

The "New messages received" status has priority, which means that the 
LED flashes when there are new messages even if the mailbox is 
disabled, for example.

The 

Forwarding

 feature has priority, which means that a connection 

is set up to the forwarding destination and the answer machine is 
not started.

Note for DSL users:
•

Due to memory capacity, recording can only be made in the 
"G.729" format. The answer machine cannot be used for a DSL 
line that supports only "G.711".

•

Remote replay via DSL is only possible if the DSL provider trans-
mits the DTMF signals using the RFC2833 standard.
