GAP
(General Access Profile)
Defines the basis for Bluetooth device
discovery and connection. This profile also
serves as the basis for many Bluetooth profiles.
HSP
(Handset Profile)
Defines the communications and functions
between a handset and a mono Bluetooth
headset.
HFP
(Hands Free Profile)
Functions as an extension of HSP. This profile
is intended for in-car communication devices
that support Bluetooth protocol.
SPP
(Serial Port Profile)
Emulates a serial port connection to function
as a substitute for RS-232 control signals. The
maximum payload is 128 bytes.
OPP
(Object Push Profile)
Defines the protocol for sending objects,
like vCard, images, calendar or A/V files. It
is named “push” because the transfer only
involves “sending” but no “receiving”. This
profile leverages OBEX profile API.
PBAP
(Phonebook Access
Profile)
Allows the exchange of phonebook information
between two Bluetooth devices. This profile is
intended for improved use for Bluetooth car-
kits.
DIP
(Device ID Profile)
Enables the identification of devices beyond
the limitations of Bluetooth Device Class.
With this profile, device information such as
manufacturer, product ID, and product version
may be identified. This profile provides the
needed information for driver download/
upgrade, as well as the needs for plug-and-play
applications.
MAP
(Message Access Profile)
This profile is used to exchange messages
between devices. It is especially tailored for
the automotive hands free where an onboard
terminal device (typically a Car-Kit installed
in the car) takes advantage of the messaging
capability of a communication device (typically
a mobile phone).
