This adapter can be used with most telescopes, binoculars, spotting
scopes and microscopes to take pictures with your smartphone.
Parts and functions:
Knob
A
: Is used to attach the adapter at the eyepiece
Knob
B
: Is used to lock the smartphone into position
Knob
C
:
Is used to center the smartphone camera to the
eyepiece‘s field of view (on the back).
Attach the adapter to the eyepiece:
Place the clamp over the eyepiece and adjust the width with knob
A
to match the size of the eyepiece. Then tighten knob
A
until
the adaptor is fixed to the eyepiece. You may have to move the
adapter up or down later, so that the camera will see the full field
of view. Make sure that the adapter is fixed to the eyepiece at a
right angle, so that the edges of the image will appear sharp on
the smartphone.
Place smartphone into the adapter:
Put the smartphone inside of the frame and lock knob
B
tightly to
prevent the smartphone from falling down.
Align the smartphone to the eyepiece:
Loosen knob
C
and place the smartphone so that the lens of the
camera is centered over the field of view of the eyepiece. Tighten
knob
C
.
Taking pictures with your smartphone:
Use your camera app to view the image of your optical device on
the screen and to take images/videos. If possible, use a remote control (often integrated in
the cable of the headphones) or an app which checks for vibrations before taking an image.
You can zoom in if the image is surrounded by a black circle – this is caused by the wide
field of view of many cameras, which shows the edges of the eyepiece. The black circ-
le should be sharp at all edges, otherwise smartphone or smartphone adapter are tilted
towards the eyepiece.
