Chapter 6:
RAW WATER SYSTEM
6.1
General
In the raw or sea water systems, the livewell water pump is
mounted to a sea cock on the thru-hull fitting located in the
stern bilge compartment and the water system pressure pump
is connected to an auxiliary fitting on the pump. Always make
sure the ball valve is open before attempting to operate any
component of the raw water system.
The water system pressure pump is equipped with an auto-
matic pressure switch and is located behind a panel in the
head compartment on the Sportfish, below the tackle station
on the Abaco and behind the helm on the Dorado. The water
system pressure pump is used to supply fresh or raw water to
the tackle station sink or the washdown. A selector valve
located near the helm seat on the Abaco, below the helm on
the Dorado and on the rear wall of the head compartment on
the Sportfish, is used to select fresh or raw water.
Priming the System
Make sure the sea cock valve is open. The Water Pressure
switch in the helm switch panel should be on and the selector
valve should be set to raw water. Run the pressure pump until
all of the air is purged from the system and then turn the fau-
cet off. Turn the Aerate switch to the “ON” position. Then
run the pump until all of the air is purged from the livewell
system and turn the Aerate switch off.
If the livewell pump runs but does not prime, it may have an
air lock at the pump. Set the water selector valve to raw water
and reprime the tackle station sink. This will remove the air
lock in the system, allowing the livewell pump to prime. Clos-
ing the thru-hull sea cock valve before the boat is hauled from
the water will help to eliminate air locks in raw water sys-
tems.
Note:
It may be necessary to reprime the raw water sys-
tem if it is not used for an extended period and at
the time of launching.
6.2
Raw Water System Operation
The high pressure pump, controlled by a pressure sensor, sup-
plies fresh or raw water to the washdown hose located in the
cockpit and the tackle station sink faucet (Abaco). The pump
is activated by the Water Pressure switch located in the helm
switch panel. Raw water is selected by setting the raw/fresh
selector valve to raw water.
The Water Pressure switch should be turned to the “ON” po-
sition just before using the washdown or sink and be turned to
the “OFF” position when the washdown or sink is not in use.
When activated, the pressure switch will automatically con-
trol the pump. As the pressure builds in the system, the pump
will shut off. When the system is in use and the pressure
drops, the pump will turn on.
