SPB Operation Manual
Freestanding Mast on Cross Frame
The free standing mast with a cross frame requires a
concrete foundation with a minimum of 13’ 1-1/2 inches
square. See “Concrete Foundation Specifications” on

Recommended Tools
• 27mm allen wrench for mast bolts.
• 36mm spanner or socket for the nuts.
• 24mm spanner for the nuts on the ladder hoops
and the delivery pipe support clamps.
• 17mm and 19mm spanners/ sockets for the
hardware on the working platform and trap door
assembly.
• hammer for driving the connection pins in / out on
the boom to mast connection or the boom arm to
turret connection.
• hydraulic torque wrench to torque the bolts hold-
ing the flanges of the mast sections.
• paint brush for applying grease to connection
pins/ points.
• 55mm socket/ spanner for nuts on anchor bolts.
for ballasted frame extra tools are:
• 36mm socket/ spanner.
• 27mm socket/ spanner.
Assembling Mast Sections
1. The work area must be secured and clear of any
hazards.
2. Within the work area there should only be the com-
ponents of the mast and supports.
3.
Only qualified personnel with proper PPE can as
-
semble the mast.
4. The rigger must be able pick and level a 20 foot
section, weighing 3252 lbs. (1475 kg).
5. The mast sections must be supported at a suitable
height and level.
6. The rigger should sling the mounting section of the
mast using a suitable eyelet and shackle fitted into
the drilled hole, (the hole is at the point of balance).

7. The section should be moved into position with the
flanges of the top section lining up with those on
the bottom.
