Look for recently backfilled areas, septic tanks and other indi-
cations of soft soil or underground voids (see Figure 31).

Tipping hazard! Take care when setting the outriggers (Figure
32). Never set up on uneven or hilly soil or try to bridge a hole with cribbing. In
these cases, you could dig a flat spot in the soil (A, B, & C). Be sure that the out-
rigger pad contacts all pieces of cribbing. Run cribbing in the opposite direction,
if needed (D).

Tipping hazard! See Figure 33. Regardless of whether you
know the load bearing capacity of the soil or not, you must test your setup:
• Fully extend all outriggers unless following shortrigging procedures;
• Use the pads supplied by the manufacturer and the cribbing indicated by the
soil conditions;
• Jack each outrigger putting the full weight of the unit on the outrigger;
