GENERAL REQUIREMENTS - MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
1. General.
A.
To facilitate reinstallation, record the location of each part during removal.
Look for indications of scoring, burning or other undesirable conditions on
removed parts. Tag unserviceable parts for investigation and possible repair.
Be sure, before installation of any part, it is completely clean.
B.
Point out to cleanness of pipes and accessory open internal volumes, take care
to prevent foreign object from entering the engine, do not allow any sharp edges,
cracks and another deterioration on the sealing surfaces during disassembly and
installation. After piping disassembly protect all pipe, connectors and accessory
openings by clean caps or by polyethylene sheet covering.
Blow through the pipes before installation using dry air, free from mechanical
contaminations and oils.
Do not allow to enter the inner spaces of the pipes and accessories by any
lubricants and greases. Flows may be disturbed inside poorly installed lines.
Protect all electric lead and equipment against fuel and oil. Pay special attention
for cleanness of contact surfaces of connections.
Cover by special caps or polyethylene sheets the halves of contact connections.
C.
If foreign object drops into the engine, it must be located and retrieved before
work process resumes even if this would require a considerable amount of labor
and time.
D.
Safety wire, lockwashers, tablocks, tabwashers, or cotterpins shall never be
reused. Round, flat washers may be reused many times, if they are in good
condition, without mechanical deteriorations.
For requirements concerning non-metallic seals (rubber, paranit), refer to the
special processes contained in following sections of this manual.
E.
If any part has been coated with corrosion preventive compounds, all traces of
this compounds and accumulated foreign matter must be removed before its
installation. Clean off all preventive compound residues with gasoline (see
72-02-00, Table 202, item 4).
2. Thread Joints.
A.
Torque indicating devices.
(1) General.
Check torque indicating devices for accuracy before using and calibrate by
means of weights and a measured lever arm. Checking one torque wrench
against another is not sufficient. Follow manufacturer's instructions.
