CLUTCH ALIGNMENT / OFFSET - PS -
47477 LWT TOOL
IMPORTANT
The drive / driven clutch offset specification on AXYS
snowmobiles is different than other Polaris snowmobile
platforms. The driven clutch is mounted closer to the
bulkhead when compared to other Polaris
snowmobiles.
NOTICE
• An additional 0.040”-0.060” must be used when using
the LWT tool to achieve accurate measurements.
• The same offset washers / bushings and float
washers as well as driven clutch float measurement
remains unchanged.
PRELIMINARY INFO
• The drive and driven clutches are offset from each
other. This offset is controlled by the number and
thickness of washers installed on the jackshaft behind
the driven clutch.
• The drive clutch (engine) is mounted in the bulkhead at
a slight angle when compared to the driven clutch
(jackshaft). When the driver applies throttle and the
drive clutch engages the belt, the drive clutch will self-
align with the driven clutch. In this arrangement, the
engine torque link acts as a pivot point.
REQUIRED TOOLS
• PS-47477 LWT Clutch Alignment Tool
• .040″ (1.02 mm) Drill Bit / Pin Gauge (Commercially
Available)
• .060 (1.52 mm) Drill Bit / Pin Gauge (Commercially
Available)
• .090″ (2.29 mm) Drill Bit / Pin Gauge (Commercially
Available)
• Digital / Dial Caliper (Commercially Available)
PROCEDURE
1. Open the left engine compartment door.
2. Remove the drive belt. Push the driven clutch
inwards.
3. Install the PS-47477 alignment tool into the drive
clutch.
4. Rest the rear of the alignment tool on top of the driven
clutch hub.
5. Verify that the clutch alignment tool is .040″ to .060″
(1.02 to 1.52 mm) from the FRONT
q
of the driven
clutch using a drill bit or pin gauge.
6. If the gap at
q
is not within specification, remove the
driven clutch and either add or remove washers from
the behind the driven clutch shaft. Install the driven
clutch and push it towards the bulkhead. Check
alignment / offset again.
7. When the gap at
q
is within specification, measure
the gap at the rear of the driven clutch
w
. The gap
should be 0 to a maximum distance of .030″ (0.75
mm) MORE than the measured gap at the front
q
of
the driven clutch.
8. Overall the maximum gap at the front
q
cannot
exceed .060″ (1.52 mm) and .090″ (2.29 mm) at the
rear
w
when using the PS-47477 tool.
9. Always verify there is at minimum one 12 GA (.150″ /
3.81 mm) bushing is installed between the bearing
and driven clutch shaft when adding or removing
washers from behind the driven clutch.
10. Always float the driven clutch bolt .010″ - .050″ (0.254
– 1.27 mm) by adding or removing washers from
behind the driven clutch bolt spacer if driven clutch
offset adjustments are made.
