Starter motor
To remove and to fit

Warning! Always disconnect the battery terminals
before the removal of any component of the electrical
system.
To remove
If the engine has a flywheel housing which is oil filled,
drain the flywheel housing before the starter motor is
removed.
1 Disconnect the battery.
2 Disconnect the starter motor cables.
3 Release the fasteners and remove the starter motor
and the distance piece, if one is fitted.
To fit
1 Clean the flange face of the starter motor, the
distance piece, if one is fitted, and the face of the
flywheel housing.
If the engine has a flywheel housing which is oil filled,
the starter motor must be sealed before it is fitted.
Apply a 2,0 mm (0.080 in) continuous bead of
POWERPART silicone rubber sealant to the flange
face of the starter motor (A2) and to the flywheel
housing (A3).
Caution: For engines fitted with a distance piece: Do
not fit the starter motor without the distance piece.
2 If one is fitted, ensure that the distance piece (A4)
is fitted in position, with its location lip to the flywheel
housing, and that the cap screws (A5) are tight.
3 Fit the starter motor and tighten the fasteners.
4 Connect the starter motor cables.
5 Connect the battery.
