Step 24: Configure the Flight Controller
The Flight Controller (FC), in this case the HoverflyOPEN, is the "brain" of the ELEV-8. The
Parallax Propeller 1 microcontroller mounted on it receives signals from the radio receiver that it
processes, in conjunction with data from the onboard three-axis gyroscope, to keep the ELEV-8
in stable flight. Before it can do all this, it must be configured for the ELEV-8 using a computer.
This step is only for users who are using the HoverflyOPEN control board. Do not follow
these instructions to program any other flight controller.
Warning!
Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are sensitive to accidental electro-static discharge
(ESD), which can destroy the electronics. To minimize this risk, avoid synthetic clothing, and
touch a faucet or other grounded metal object before handling. You can also use anti-static
ground mats, and surface mats.
Tools Needed
● Computer with Windows operating system and Internet access
● USB (A) to USB Mini (B) Cable (not included)
Parts Needed
● HoverflyOPEN Board (#31500)
Warning!
Do not connect any batteries or ESCs to the HoverflyOPEN board while it is
connected to your computer, as this will overload the board and/or your computer's USB port.
