Step 37: ESC Synchronization and Range Check
Before attaching the Propellers, you must synchronize the maximum and minimum throttle
signal between the ESCs and your transmitter. Then, you need to perform a radio control
system range check, which will ensure that your transmitter and receiver are working properly.
This step is often overlooked, but failing to perform this check can be have significant, and often
dangerous, consequences.
Parts Needed
● RC Radio Transmitter, prepared in Step 22
● Manual for your RC Radio Transmitter
● LiPo Battery, prepared in Step 5
● ELEV-8 Assembly, prepared in Step 36
Instructions
1. Turn your transmitter on and make sure your 5th channel is in the correct value.
○ For Spektrum DX6i Transmitters, the gear switch should be on.
○ For Spektrum DX7 and DX8 Transmitters, the gear switch should be off.
○ For ORX-T-SIX Transmitters, the gear switch should be off (1 position).
2. Make sure that the trim on the throttle channel of your transmitter is at zero.
The LiPo
battery on your ELEV-8 should not be plugged in yet.
3. Move the throttle stick all the way up to maximum throttle and leave it there.
4. Connect your battery to the Power Breakout Cable to supply power to the ELEV-8.
5. You will hear two beeps. Imediatly after the beeps, move the throttle all the way down.
You should hear one more long beep, confirming the ESCs have been synchronized
correctly.
6. Power-cycle the ELEV-8 by unplugging the battery then plugging it back in.
7. Follow the instructions in your RC radio transmitter manual to perform a range check.
Range Check Instructions for Spektrum DX8 and ORX T-SIX Transmitters.
1. Stand about 30 paces (90 feet/30 meters) away from your powered ELEV-8.
2. Face your ELEV-8 with your transmitter in normal flying position.
○ For Spektrum DX7 and DX8 transmitters, access the “Function List” by clicking
the scroll wheel once from the main screen, then scroll down to “Range Check”
and click again.
○ For Spektrum DX6i and ORX T-SIX transmitters, hold the scroll wheel down
while powering on the system to access the “Setup List”, then scroll down to
“Range Check” and click again.
