Antenna Cable
The (optional) antenna kit is supplied with 50 ft. (15 m) of RG-58 or RG-59 cable,
terminated with a TNC male connector at each end. In some applications a longer
length of cable may be required.
Other lengths and types of cable can be used as long as the signal loss at 1575 MHz
does not exceed 30 dB.
Caution: Not all coaxial cable exhibits the same amount of attenuation or shielding
quality. These parameters can vary between manufacturers as well as manufacturer's
type.
Odetics has evaluated several manufactures and types of cable, and has found that
Belden
®
type 9311 (RG-58), Belden
®
type 8267 (RG-213), Belden
®
type 9913 (RG-8),
and Belden
®
type 9104 (RG-59) cable provide good performance.
The following table indicates the maximum length of recommended cable type when
used with the antenna supplied in Odetics P/N 0810137 antenna kit.

For extremely long runs it is necessary to use an In-Line Amplifier and/or low loss cable
manufactured by Andrew Corporation, Orland Park, IL, USA, Times Microwave
Corporation, Wallingford, CT, USA, and other manufacturers. This cable has a loss of 1 to
3 dB per 30 meters that allows for cable runs in excess of 300 meters.
