6. Heart rate mode
How to get a heart rate reading
• Wear the watch around your wrist.
• Adjust the transmitter on the centre of your chest
with the supplied elastic band. For men, the chest
strap should be located directly below pectoral
muscles and for women, directly below the breast.
The conductive pads should make firm contact with
your skin and the strap should be tight enough to
avoid loosening it during exercise.
• In most of the cases, skin natural moisture or
sweat is enough to ensure a good contact with the
conductive pads. However, you can moisten the
conductive pads with water, saliva or conductive
gel (available at you local pharmacy).
• Press the [D] button in the current time mode or the
countdown timer mode to get to the heart rate mode.
• When in the heart rate mode, press the [U] button to
activate the measurement. The icon ‘ ‘will
appear and icons ‘ ’ and ‘ ’ will
flash until current heart rate is displayed together with percentage of the maximum
heart rate. If the heart rate alert is activated, the watch might beep. Refer to section
‘How to set the heart rate zone Alert’ for further explanation.
NOTES:
- If long response time or no heart rate reading, check for possible causes and solutions
in chapter 7.
- The device contains sensitive electronic components. Keep it clear of strong electric or
magnetic fields in the immediate surroundings as these may affect the radio signal
between watch and chest strap.
- You can get interferences from other users’ heart rate monitors. Keep a safety distance
of 1 meter between users.
Heart rate zone alert function
• The heart rate alert is a function which alerts you when your heart rate is out of the
objective heartbeat zone. The heartbeat zone consists of settable upper and lower limits
expressed in percentage of your maximum heart rate or in Beats Per Minute (BPM).
• The Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) is calculated by this watch using the formula:
MHR = 220 – user age
Important Note:
This formula only gives an estimation
based on statistics which might not reflect precisely your
own MHR. For a better evaluation, you can have your
MHR clinically measured or perform a field test under a
trainer supervision.
• This watch displays the percentage of maximum
heart rate calculated by using the formula:
% of MHR = acquired heart rate / MHR x 100 %
• This watch will compare this result with the upper
and lower limits previously set and alert you to take
actions e.g. slow down or speed up, to return to the
objective heartbeat zone.
An example:
The following exemplifies the heart rate alert function:
A fit man, 30 years old, sets his objective heartbeat zone with a lower limit of 60% of MHR
and an upper limit of 80% of MHR.
