mapping
See font mapping.
monospaced font
Any font in which all characters have the same width.
For example, in Courier (a monospaced font), the letter
0
is the same
width as the letter
. Thus,
00000
is the same width as
.
mouse pointer
A small shape on the screen that follows the movement
of the mouse. The pointer can take the shape of an arrow, an l-beam,
or other graphical character depending on the current operation.
OCR
See optical character recognition.
OCR-A font
A special font often used for items such as part numbers
and utility bills.
OmniPage Document
A file that is saved in OmniPage Pro’s
proprietary format. OmniPage Documents can consist of original page
images, zones, and recognized text.
optical character recognition (OCR)
The process of turning an image,
such as a scanned paper document or an electronic fax file, into
computer-editable text so you do not have to manually retype the text.
PICT
Apple Computer's proprietary graphic file format.
pixel
Short for picture element. A dot on the graphics screen.
point
A typographic unit of measurement equal to 1/72 inch, measured
vertically. Points are used to describe font size.
proportional font
Any font in which characters differ in width. For
example, in Palatino (a proportional font), the letter M is wider than
the letter l. Thus, MMMMM is wider than lllll.
recognition
The OCR process. A page is recognized when OmniPage Pro
performs OCR on it.
reject character
The character that represents unrecognizable characters
in a recognized document. A tilde (~) is the default reject character. For
example, if OmniPage could not recognize the J in REJECT, and ~ is the
reject character, the string RE~ECT would appear in your document.
resolution
The fineness with which a scanner, printer, or other device
produces information. It is expressed in dots per inch (dpi). In scanning,
a higher dpi produces a sharper image.
style
See zone style.
style set
A setting that comprises a group of zone styles.
text file
A file containing information in text-only format. Its characters
are encoded using the ASCII (or comparable) format.
Text View
The area in OmniPage Pro’s Document window that
displays recognized text and any retained graphics.
