Chapter 3 - Using the Controls
Using the PWR key
To turn on the unit, press the
key briefly. The unit emits
several short beeps as it displays the special startup identifica-
tion screen first, followed by the results of the internal
self-tests that are automatically run each time the unit is
turned on. After you clear the warning message, navigation
data is then displayed.
To turn the unit off, press and hold the
key for three sec-
onds until the unit turns off.
Using the ARROW key
LCD screens require adjustment to compensate for different
viewing angles, temperature conditions, and so on. The 951’s
double
key lets you adjust the contrast of the display
screen to get the best picture for your current conditions. In
the 952, the double
key lets you adjust the bright-

the lower arrow darkens it. Adjust the screen for the best pic-
ture for your normal operating location.

Saving a waypoint

key briefly to store your position. This

S002-

where the letter
S
indicates a saved waypoint, and the
three-digit number increases by one every time you save a
waypoint.

to -
S001-
when the unit has reached the limit you set using
the
MAX SAVED WAYPT #
function in the
DISPLAY OPTIONS
menu (see ”Changing display options” starting on page 146).
The old waypoint with this same name is overwritten. This fea-
