Chapter 2 - Introducing the Northstar 951/952

The
function key (
) lets you:
•
display alarm conditions and tide information
•
access setup functions for customizing the operation and
displays of your unit
The
function key lets you:
•
enter or access waypoints
•
enter or access routes
•
easily move all waypoints and routes between two or
more 951/952/941 units (if connected properly)
The
function key lets you:
•
display the progress of your current navigation plan
(today’s trip)
•
modify the current navigation plan
In addition to these function keys, the
key
instantly saves your position as a waypoint, and provides a
Man Overboard (MOB) function for returning to the saved
point.
Understanding special functions
You may want to read about the chart plotter, loran TDs, and
TideTrack™ functions in detail before using them.
Chart plotter
functions
The unit plots your position on an electronic
CHART
screen.
Nearby land masses, depth contours, nav aids, waypoints,
avoidance areas, and a lat/lon grid may be displayed, along
with an image of your boat.
When you’re using the unit as a chart plotter, the menu keys
to the right of the display screen allow you to perform the fol-
lowing functions:

zoom in to show more detail
