Alert Behaviour specific to Radar
Alert management behaves slightly differently, dependent on whether your
VMFT is an exclusively ECDIS system

or a Radar/Chart Radar system

The following describes the alert behaviour for primary sensors on a
Radar/Chart Radar system (for a list of primary sensors applicable to a
radar system refer to `
Primary Sensors on Radar Systems ’ in Chapter 4
Sensor Management).

If a primary sensor becomes unusable when the sensor is currently
selected the alert generated is a warning.

If the primary sensor becomes unusable when the sensor is not
selected the alert generated is a caution.

When a sensor that is not a primary sensor becomes unusable a
caution is generated.
If your VMFT is using a Track Control sub system then the following sensor
alerts will be generated as alarms if the sensor is currently in use:

True Heading

Speed Through Water


An ECDIS System is one in which none of the nodes on a Multi Node system permit a
Radar watch mode.

A Radar/Chart Radar system is one in which at least one node in a Multi Node system
or CSR system has been configured to permit a Radar or Chart Radar watch mode.
