5-2   Installing Options

Your computer supports a variety of industry-standard and
NEC CSD expansion options.

This chapter provides system upgrade instructions for adding
memory modules, expansion boards, and data storage
devices.

All options require that the system cover be removed.
Procedures for removing the cover are included in this
chapter.

General Rules

Follow these general rules when you install the system
options.

Turn off system power and unplug the power cable.

„

 

Turn off and disconnect all peripherals.

„

 

When handling boards or chips, touch the system frame to
discharge static.

„

 

Do not disassemble parts other than those specified in the
procedure.

„

 

All screws are Phillips-head unless otherwise specified.

„

 

Label any cable connectors before disconnecting. Note
where the connector goes and in what position it was
installed.

Safety Precautions

Observe safety rules when working inside the system and
when handling computer components. Avoid electric shock
