9-6 Upgrading Your Server
Attachment and post-attachment checks
After adding an option or attaching a component, check the following points.
Attach removed components in the same way as before.
When adding or removing components, attach removed components and cables in the same
way as before. Forgetting to attach components or leaving cables unplugged during
assembly can cause operational problems. In addition, be sure to attach components and
cables securely, not loosely.
Make sure that attaching components and screws in the server has not been
forgotten.
In particular, make sure that attaching screws and other conductive components has not been
forgotten. Leaving a conductive component on the motherboard or the end of a cable can
cause operational problems when the power is turned on.
Check the effectiveness of server-internal cooling.
Make sure that the vents used to cool the wires running through the inside of the server are
not blocked. If the cooling effectiveness is lost, the server-internal temperature can increase,
causing operational problems.
Use tools to check the operation.
After adding certain devices, it is necessary to make sure they are correctly attached by
using tools such as diagnostic utilities or BIOS setup utilities. These requirements are
described in detail in the procedures for adding each device. See these procedures as
necessary.
