Fold Rollers - Setting the Parallelism & Pressure
There are four Fold Rollers, one of which is fixed (Ø45) and has no adjustments This roller acts as
the datum for the remaining three Fold Rollers (Ø60) which all have parallelism & pressure
adjustments to ensure sheets are correctly aligned and controlled
On the Layside end of each roller is an eccentric housing which enables adjustment of the
parallelism. This housing is secured to the shaft using one M5 set screw. NOTE - holes have been
added either side of the securing screw to insert a hexagon key to facilitate adjustment.
The 3 main 'Fold Rollers' should be set-up in sequence (1,2 then 3) as follows:-
Lower the Delivery Unit for easy access . (See FIG.4.1)
Loosen the Layside Housing Locking Screw (M5 set screw).
Insert two 80gsm Test Strips (one each end) into the nip of the first Fold Roller by feeding the
Test Strips between the Lower Roller Shield & the Lower Guide. It may be necessary to move
the fold knives to gain access to the rollers.
Adjust the Layside Housing until an even pressure is felt on the two strips & temporarily
tighten the layside housing set screw.
Now turn the appropriate gap set adjuster knob, to give a very light 'pull' on the test strips.
Check the 'feel' on a complete rotation of the roller to ensure the roller is concentric &
parallel.
Repeat from 4.2 until both strips have the same (very light) feel and then fully tighten the
layside housing screw (M5 set screw).
Repeat the above procedure for the 2nd & 3rd Fold Rollers by feeding the Test Strips
between the Paper Guide & Upper Roller Shield for the 2nd roller, & by dropping the
Perforator Assembly down for direct access to the 3rd roller.
