MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
4-83
CHECKING THE ALTERNATOR AND THE STARTER
4
The brush may be worn or the bearing may be without grease. Contact your Komatsu distributor for the necessary
inspection or repair. If the engine is started frequently, carry out this check every 1000 hours.
CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE ENGINE VALVE CLEARANCE
4
A special tool is required for removing and adjusting the involved parts. Have this operation performed by your
Komatsu distributor.
NITROGEN LOADING PRESSURE CHECK IN THE ACCUMULATOR (FOR THE CONTROL
CIRCUIT)
4
WARNING
q
The accumulator is loaded with high pressure nitrogen; therefore, an incorrect operation may cause
an explosion with consequent serious injuries or damage. When handling the accumulator, always
proceed as indicated below.
q
Hydraulic circuit pressure cannot be completely eliminated. When the hydraulic equipment is
removed, do not stand in the oil jet outlet direction. Moreover, loosen the bolts slowly during this
operation.
q
Do not remove the accumulator;
q
Do not bring the accumulator near sparks or naked flames.
q
Do not make holes in the accumulator, do not weld or use oxyhydrogen flames.
q
Do not hit or press the accumulator.
q
The gas must be released when disposing of the accumulator. Refer to Komatsu distributor to have
this operation carried out.
q
If the nitrogen loading pressure in the accumulator is low and operation continues, it will be
impossible to release the pressure remaining inside the hydraulic circuit in case of a machine failure.
Accumulator operation
The accumulator store the pressure in the control circuit. Even
when the engine is stopped, the control circuit can be enabled
and the following operations are activated.
q
If the control lever is activated to lower the working tool, the
latter may descend because of its own weight.
q
Hydraulic circuit pressure can be released.
The accumulator is fitted in the position illustrated in the
drawing.
