3-7 Handling the SCR system

In order to comply with exhaust emission EPA/CARB Tier 4. EC stage 4, the machine is equipped with an SCR system
that uses the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) to clean the exhaust gas emissions. The SCR system adds the DEF to the
exhaust emission gases, so that the fluid reacts with the gases to reduce the levels of NOx
(nitrogen oxides) contained in
the emission gases.
The engine output will decrease if the system is not used properly. Therefore, read this section carefully to ensure the
system is operated correctly.
(1) SCR system status display
The status of the SCR system can be confirmed based on the DEF level meter, DEF indicator, check engine lamp,
and message display.
If the above warning message is displayed on the monitor, the engine output and speed will be
successively restricted in stages, and the engine speed will be eventually fixed at a low-idle speed.
Promptly take necessary actions to remedy the situation.

If the low DEF level warning is displayed
This is displayed when the DEF level is too low in the DEF tank.
If the warning is displayed, promptly replenish the specified DEF.

If the SCR system error warning is displayed
This is displayed if an SCR system error or DEF quality error occurs.
If the warning is displayed, contact your authorised KATO dealer.
