10-1-1 Preparations for low temperatures
(T218081-190-0E)
When the outside air temperature in winter drops to 0
°
C or below, the ability of the engine to start and the performance
of lubrication in all parts deteriorates and falling air temperatures bring a variety of other ill effects, so adequate
advance preparation is necessary.
Refer to the sections below and make adequate preparations for winter.
(1) Fuel
Use a diesel fuel with a fluidity point 5
°
C lower than the outside temperature. For example, if the outside air
temperature falls to
-
15
°
C, use diesel fuel which remains fluid at
-
20
°
C.
Using a non-specified fuel can not only adversely affect performance, but could also cause a
serious accident. Such problems are not subject to guarantee.
(01E0-0251-1E)
(2) Lubricant
Replace the lubricant used in respective equipment with low viscosity lubricant.
Refer to "3-3 Recommended lubricants table" in the inspection and servicing section regarding specified
viscosities.
(3) Long Life Coolant
To prevent the water freezing during shipping for delivery, Long Life Coolant in accordance with the freezing
temperature specifications as shown below is added in the coolant regardless of the season when leaving the
factory.
・
Use Long Life Coolant at 50% concentration.
If the concentration is lower, engine failure may be caused.
・
Do not mix with other types or brands of antifreeze or anti-corrosion additives.
(T218341-112-0E)
(4) Battery
Normally battery electrolyte does not freeze in cold weather, but if the battery charge is low, some freezing is
possible. A battery which has frozen is permanently unusable, so take precautions to maintain the battery
temperature.
