Additional Information about Creating Logical Volumes
Size Considerations
There are some precautions you should know about when working with logical
volumes. It is important to pay attention to the size of the array and the size of
your drives. If you try to create a logical volume that exceeds the size of all the
arrays in the enclosure(s), you will get the following message (see
Figure 89. Not Enough Space for a new Logical Volume
Being aware of the size of your drives is important because you don't want to
have a drive(s) oversized to the point that you loose a lot of space. For example,
if the smallest drive is 20GB and your largest drive is 60GB, you still only get the
advantage of 20GB.
Deleting a Logical Volume
You may need to delete or remove a logical volume if you need to make a new
configuration, or you simply want to start over from the first configuration
design.
Be sure that you have made a backup of anything that needs to be retained before
you decide to delete a logical volume.
CAUTION: Remember, when you delete a logical volume, your data will be
destroyed. It is recommended that you make a backup
