Online Capacity Expansion
Online Capacity Expansion (OCE) or expanding an array means adding member
drives to the array configuration. More than one drive can be added in the same
capacity expansion operation; however, do not exceed a total of 16 drives per
array. The OCE process integrates the new member drives into the array
configuration by restriping existing data across them. The resulting array is larger
than the original array. Expanding the capacity of an array is a lengthy operation
that can take several hours; however, data is fully available during the process.
Capacity expansion of an array should not be confused with Increasing Logical
Volume Size, which is discussed in the next section.
