Raise/Lower Circuit—Theory of
Operation
The following text outlines the operation of one actuator.
All actuators with in this system work identically but utilize
individual circuits, inputs, and outputs. The
pre-programmed settings crosscut and float, referenced
below, can be adjusted in the LCD maintenance mode.
Power Circuit
Unswitched 48V power is available from stud 3 through
150A fuse (F8) and 0.02 ohm resistor (R6) to key switch
terminal A and liquid crystal display (LCD) terminal
J11-8.
When the key switch is turned to the run position, 48 volts
is provided from key switch terminal B to liquid crystal
display (LCD) ignition terminal J11-5, powering up the
LCD.
With the LCD powered up, a ground is provided from the
LCD switched power contactor output terminal J11-10 to
the power distribution unit (PDU) terminal J1-4. With a
ground provided to J1-4, the 12 and 48 volt switched
power contactors are energized.
With the PDU 12 volt switched power contactor
energized, 12 volts is provided through 0.02 ohm resistor
(R12) to the main control unit (MCU) 12 volt power input
terminal J2-8. PDU terminal J1-5 also provides 12 volts
to splice E and then from splice E, 12 volts is provided to
MCU 12 volt power input terminal J2-6. With the PDU 48
volt switched power contactor energized, 48 volts is
provided to circuit breaker (F4) and MCU 48 volt power
input terminal J2-7, powering up the MCU.
Forty-eight volts is provided from PDU terminal J122 to
reel control unit (RCU) 48 volt power input terminal J5-3,
powering up the RCU.
Raise Circuit
The LCD converts the 48 volts supplied to LCD terminal
J11-8 to 12 volts. The 12 volts is used as the source
voltage for the control panel switches. LCD +12V power
supply terminal J11-6 provides 12 volts to splice G.
Splice G provides 12 volts to raise/lower switch terminals
J19-6 and J19-1. Splice G also provides 12 volts to left
reel enable switch terminal J16-2 and then from left reel
enable switch terminal J16-2 to center reel enable switch
terminal J17-2. Center reel enable switch terminal J17-2
provides 12 volts to right reel enable switch terminal
J18-2.
The right, center, and left reel enable switches allow the
operator to choose which reels to operate. Each reel can
be operated independently from the others.
When the right reel enable switch is in the on position,
voltage is provided to the LCD right reel enable input
terminal J12-6, activating the input. When the center reel
enable switch is in the on position, voltage is provided to
the LCD center reel enable input terminal J12-4,
activating the input. When the left reel enable switch is in
the on position, voltage is provided to the LCD left reel
enable input terminal J12-3, activating the input. With the
reel enable inputs activated, the status of the switches is
communicated to main control unit (MCU) through the
controller area network (CAN).
When the raise/lower switch is placed in the raise
position, voltage is provided to the LCD raise input
terminal J12-7, activating the input. With the input
activated, the LCD communicates the status of the raise
switch to MCU. The MCU now instructs the reel control
unit (RCU) to raise the reels through the controller area
network (CAN).
Note: When in transport mode, the raise/lower switch
activates the actuators only if the raise/lower switch is
held in the raise or lower position. When the raise/lower
switch is released the actuators stop immediately. When
in mow mode, the raise/lower function will be in “one
touch crosscut” mode, meaning the raise/lower switch will
only need to be tapped to trigger the actuators to move to
a pre-programmed position.
The RCU right lift actuator 5V supply terminal J8-6
provides voltage to the right reel lift actuator 5V lift sensor
input terminal J72-4. The right reel lift actuator lift sensor
output terminal J72-5 provides a signal relative to its
position to RCU right lift sensor signal input terminal
J8-5.
To raise the right reel lift actuator, the RCU right lift motor
control output terminal J8-1 provides 48 volts to right reel
lift actuator motor terminal A (J25-2). At the same time,
the RCU right lift motor control output terminal J8-2
provides a ground to right reel lift actuator motor terminal
B (J25-1).
The lift actuators have an internal limit switch to stop the
motors from operating when the actuators reach the fully
raised position.
