Chapter 6 Transfer Ribbon Mechanism
6.5
Break Shaft
Description
At the top front of the print unit is a shaft that breaks the ribbon path
before the ribbon is rewound. At the outer end, the shaft is fitted by
a Posidrive screw running through an oblong hole in the print unit's
gable plate. This arrangement allows the angle of the shaft to be
adjusted so as to compensate for any misalignments that may cause
ribbon wrinkling. The shaft is factory-adjusted and should not be
readjusted until any other measures have proven insufficient. Refer
to chapter 13.12 for measures to be taken to remedy ribbon
wrinkling.
Adjustment
• Loosen the Posidrive screw slightly so the shaft can be moved
with some resistance left.
• If the ribbon wrinkles on the inner side, lift the break shaft
slightly.
• If the ribbon wrinkles on the outer side, lower the break shaft
slightly.
• After having adjusted the shaft and tightened the screw, print
several label and examine the result. The change may not be
visible until after several decimetres (a few feet) of ribbon has
been fed.
• If required, readjust and test again until no wrinkling remains.
