Chapter 7 Print Unit
Description
A 36V stepper motor drives the platen roller, the ribbon rewind unit
1
and the media take-up spool
1
.
The motor is fitted by Posidrive screws to four pillars protruding
from the centre-line wall into the electronics compartment.
The stepper motor is fitted with a two-belt pulley. The belt closest
to the motor
1
drives the ribbon rewind unit and the media take-up
spool and the other one drives the platen roller.
The stepper motor is connected to connector J10 on the CPU board.
Replacement
• Open the electrics cover as described in chapter 2.3.
• Remove the CPU board as described in chapter 11.2.
• Pull away the tooth belt from the platen roller pulley.
• Pull away the tooth belt from the media take-up pulley
1
.
• Loosen the cable running from the stepper motor to J10 on the
CPU board.
• Loosen the four Posidrive screws that hold the motor's flange
and pull out the motor.
• Reassemble in reverse order, taking special notice of the follow-
ing:
• Place the belts over the pulley of the replacement motor noting
that the longer belt

should run in a loop around the rear upper
pillar that holds the motor.
• Put back the belt or belts (also see chapter 7.4).
• Before tightening the screws, pull the motor backwards as far as
it goes to tighten the belt to the platen roller. Make sure that the
motor will not interfere with the CPU board.
• Adjust the tension of the long belt
1
(see chapter 7.4).
• Fit back the CPU board and the electrics cover in reverse order.
