Chapter 13 Troubleshooting
13.11 Printing
Troubles, cont'd.
Description:
Paper feed does not work properly.
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• Print instruction missing.
- Verify that a PRINTFEED instruction is actually issued in the
Direct Protocol.
• Media sensor seems not to detect label gaps or similar.
- The label length setup should be exactly the same or slightly
less than the actual length of the label. The setup must not
exceed the actual length. Check and adjust.
• Dirty or worn platen roller.
- Inspect the platen roller for visible wear. Replace if necessary
(see chapter 7.2).
- Clean the platen roller using a cleaning card or a soft cloth
moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Paper dust or adhesive
residue can deteriorate the paper feed function or make the
paper slip.
• Worn platen roll bearings.
- Check the platen roll bearings for excessive play.
- Check for abnormal noise when manually rotating the platen
roller.
• Wrong belt tension.
- Check the tension of toothed belt that drives the platen roller
and adjust as explained in chapter 7.4.
• Faulty stepper motor.
- Connect a working stepper motor to J10 and perform a
PRINTFEED or FORMFEED operation. If this motor runs,
the original paper feed stepper motor is probably damaged.
• CPU board malfunction or bad connection.
- The stepper motor's drive circuits, U31 and U32 on the CPU
board could be damaged.
- Check that the connector of the stepper motor's cable are
properly connected to J10 on the CPU board.
• Power supply malfunction.
- Check the voltage on test point TP_40V on the CPU board, see
chapter 11.9. If the 40V is not within limits, the power supply
is probably faulty.
