K. Servicing the Expansion Valves:
The thermostatic expansion valve is designed to keep the evaporator coil
supplied with enough refrigerant to satisfy all load conditions. The system
must be evacuated before servicing the expansion valve. Perform
Refrigeration System Evacuation
procedure, paragraph 3.I. in this Section.
Refer to manufacturer's data in Chapter 5 for servicing instructions.
L. Servicing the Filter-Drier:
The refrigerant filter-drier must be maintained in order to keep the refrigerant
clean and dry. Foreign matter in the refrigerant can damage delicate parts
having close tolerances. Moisture in the system can become vary acidic
which can cause corrosion problems and create sludge in the system. The
system must be evacuated when the filter-drier is serviced. Perform
Refrigeration System Evacuation
procedure, paragraph 3.I. in this Section.
The filter-drier is not repairable. If the system is opened for service or has
become contaminated, the filter-drier must be replaced with a new part.
(1) Sweat the old filter-drier loose from the piping and remove it. (See Figure
3)
(2) Install a new filter-drier onto the piping making sure that the arrow on the
drier is pointing upward toward the refrigerant sight glass.
(3) Evacuation system with new drier to remove all air and moister by
performing
Refrigeration System Evacuation
procedure, paragraph 3.I.
in this Section.
(4) Open any previously closed shutoff valves.
(5) Charge the system by performing
Charging Refrigerant
procedure,
paragraph 3.F. in this Section.
(6) Operate the unit in COOL mode and check for leaks around the filter-drier
installation. (Refer to Section 1-2)
M. Servicing the Blower Assembly
The unit blower assembly (See Figure 3) consists of the blower motor, fan
wheel, mounting pedestal, bell housing, and associated electrical harnesses.
The motor bearings are sealed in the motor housing and require periodic
lubrication through the two (2) grease fittings on the housing. (See Figure 3;
Refer to Table 2) Also, periodically inspect and tighten motor mounting bolts
and motor assembly pedestal mounts.
